The Cold Tears
Half Dome- The story that is told about this beautiful slab of rock comes from the Ahwanhneechee. The story is about a man (Tokoyee) and his wife (Tissiak). They got into an argument. Tempers became high and she threw her basket of acorns at him. They stood with wicked intent towards one another. In results, they were turned to stone. Her tears are the stripes on the face of Half Dome. North Dome (the dome that Half Dome faces) represents Tokoyee. Basket Dome (named after the basket of acorns) is located to the right of North Dome.
Looking into this story may bring a different meaning than what I believe. How I see this story is between the couple a decision was made after an argument that will change their lives forever. Them being changed to stone is a metaphor for a moment they can't take back that will sit in their lives forever. It is a story about reacting when angry and that decision could have been changed in that moment but now it is too late to get back to that point. That instant in your life only took one second but it will last forever. So think of your reactions and defuse it before it damages your life.
